On This Day in Weird, March 12...

1870: The Avalanche newspaper, published in Silver City, Idaho, reports hunters have killed a carnivorous animal of unknown species, dubbed "the man-eater," near town. The report described it as having short legs and ears, large feet, a bushy 10-inch tail, and weighing about 100 pounds. The fate of its corpse is unknown.
