ON THIS DAY IN WEIRD

On This Day in Weird, September 14...

1909: Conservationist Sir Peter Markham born in London, England. In 1975, based on a blurry underwater photo taken at Loch Ness, he proposed a scientific name for the Loch Ness Monster—Nessiteras rhombopteryx—to permit the cryptid's listing as an endangered species.

1925: Roy P. Mackal born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In later life, while a professor of biology at the University of Chicago, he became well known as an cryptozoologist, author, and a founder of the International Society of Cryptozoology.
