ON THIS DAY IN WEIRD

On This Day in Weird, September 13...

1988: The "Christian Rapture" fails to occur on schedule, as predicted by NASA engineer-turned-"prophet" Edgar C. Whisenant in his book 88 Reasons Why the Rapture Is in 1988. Disappointed like all end-time hucksters before him, Whisenant pushes the date back to October 3—when, once again, nothing happens. Future publications set the date for 1989 and 1993, without result.
