GALVESTON MONSTER

Galveston Map

This is the sea off Galveston (Texas) out of where we have dug an interesting sea-monster account from our files.  It seems that, in 1872, the crew of the good ship St Olaf beheld a creature in this vicinity.  What it was they could not guess.  It seemed to be in pursuit of some sharks.  It had a head resembling that of a snake.  It was estimated at being 70' or 2im in length, with a body of uniform thickness.  Its back was of a greenish hue, with brown spots, while its underparts were white.  It had four dorsal fins.

As we know so little of the depths of the sea and what grim creatures tenant them, we can be fairly certain this is no known animal and its identity may remain forever outside the gamut of human knowledge.
