On This Day in Weird, August 8...
1925: An estimated 50,000 members of the Ku Klux Klan—peak
membership around 5 million—parade in full uniform down Pennsylvania Avenue in
Washington, D.C., in a display of the "secret" terrorist group's
strength. President Calvin Coolidge goes fishing, but leaves marines to guard
the U.S. Treasury, just in case.
