On This Day in Weird, June 3...
1943: The "zoot suit riots" begin in Los Angeles,
with U.S. Navy seamen, marines, and white civilians attacking Mexican Americans
on public streets, beating them and stripping off the stylized clothing favored
by young minority men of the era. LAPD officers arrive in time to arrest the
victims for assault. Nothing Fortean here, but still deeply weird.
