1969: German-American science writer Willy Ley, author of such quasi-cryptozoological classics as The Lungfish, the Dodo, & the Unicorn (1948), Dragons in Amber (1951), Salamanders and other Wonders (1955), Willy Ley's Exotic Zoology (1959), dies in Queens, New York, at age 62.
