ON THIS DAY IN WEIRD

On This Day in Weird, May 14...

1804: Explorers Lewis and Clark set out from St. Louis, Missouri, on their epic journey to the Pacific coast. Prior to departure, President Thomas Jefferson asks then to watch for living specimens of the prehistoric ground sloth Megalonyx.

1974: LAPD officers and FBI agents annihilate leaders of the Symbionese Liberation Army. Rumors persist that the radical group grew out of CIA mind-control experiments performed on California prison inmates.
